about this recording:
A ll the items on this CD were discovered, quite unexpectedly, in the library at Schloss Rohrau, 40 km from Vienna, the former residence of the Harrach family and now the home of their sumptuous and world-renowned collection of art treasures, one of the best in private hands in the world.

"In retrospect, it is surprising that no-one thought to ask why no music by Silvius Leopold Weiss (1687-1750) appeared among the known Harrach lute manuscripts. Weiss was by far the most eminent lutenist of his own – or any – age, commanding an enormous salary at the Dresden court, where he astonished anyone who heard him perform during his 30 years as Hof-Lautenist." (Tim Crawford, booklet text)
