about this recording:
The blossoming of the musical arts at Spain’s courts and the later relapse into temporary insignificance went hand in hand with Spain’s rise to the greatest empire in Christendom and its unavoidable fall. This is of course quite natural, after all at that time the arts were much more dependent than they are today on the favor of generous benefactors and patrons at the courts and churches that took musicians into their services as performers, composers, and teachers. The La Douchaine ensemble for ancient music was founded in 1 997. The four musicians met while studying at the colleges of music in Hanover and Hamburg. The name of the ensemble describes a medieval wind instrument with a delicate, sweet sound that we only know today from literary sources, such as the poem, ‚Les Échecs Amoureux‘. The four musicians have performed their extensive repertoire, which they play on historical instruments, in numerous concerts in and outside Germany, whereby the focus of their artistic work is on music from the Renaissance and Baroque epochs. In 2 004, La Douchaine was awarded the ‘Andrés Segovia Prize’ for chamber music in Santiago de Compostela, Spain.
