| about this recording: GOL O BOLBOL Rose and Nightingale - Rose and Nightingale symbolize the orient and the oczident, an invention of the city Shiraz, the legendary city with the hanging gardens, the object of al sensual dreams. The rose symbolizes everything blooming, colorful and sensual in persian music. Nightingale stands for the clear, sweet and self-arousing sound of Italian singing. The songs collected here are, of course neither of oriental origin nor directly influenced by oriental tradition. But the art of singing at the beginning of the 17th century was definitely influenced by eastern origins. After the winning back of Granada by the "Catholic Kings" in 1492 and the drinving out of the jews from Spain, oriental impressions and ideas reached italy. |
